I’m in the process of making some website updates to drjoejoe.com, you may notice a few differences already. Just trying to organize the site a bit better, and make it more visually interesting.
A lot has gone on since the last time I posted anything. On the homefront, we’re getting close to the due date. We’re expecting our daughter to arrive within the next couple of weeks. She has been dubbed “Cookie Dough.” That came to be when Kecia told me that she was pregnant. My not-so-sensitive response was, jokingly, “Nah, you’ve just been eatin’ too much cookie dough!” And, it stuck. Ever since, family and friends have been referring to the baby as Cookie Dough. We are all beyond excited to meet her.
At work, major change and growth. The CUNY Leadership Academy has been named in honor and memory of Ernesto Malave, a Vice Chancellor who made a huge impact on the University and well beyond. You can read more and view a great video on the Ernesto Malave memorial webpage. We are now the Ernesto Malave Leadership Academy at the City University of New York.
In honor of our eponym, the CUNY administration has rallied, and we have been working that much harder, to ensure that we truly honor the legacy of Mr. Malave. We are currently in the process of building a Board of Advisors, which is very exciting and will be very helpful with advancement. CUNY is also working to find an appropriate home for the Academy, where we will be able to expand our services to students and the community.
Both the idea of becoming a parent, and the responsibility of helping to carry a legacy at work, have been humbling. I feel ready. My parents, mentors, peers and team have provided the guidance and support necessary for me to learn. Now, it is time for Kecia and I to take on parenting, and for the Malave Team to take our work to the next level.
There has been a lot more, but those are the big personal and professional goings on. I’d write more but I have so much work to do that I really shouldn’t be blogging right now. This weekend; editing for DiCE and the Diversity Collegium, catching up on e-mail, some work around the apartment, errands, and trying to be helpful to Kecia while we get closer to the big day!
